I just got Freerock Gnome 2.10 installed, but it's a bit different than Gnome 2.6. Anybody know how to:
1. How to add launchers to the applications menu?
2. How do you allow normal users to shutdown?
The right-click method of adding launchers doesn't work in Freerock, and the "/var/run/console - username - chmod +s /sbin/halt" method of user/Gnome shutdown doesn't work either.
The menu editing features in GNOME 2.10 have been disabled. A dirty hack is to manually create a .desktop file and place it in /usr/share/applications. You can use the ones already in /usr/share/applications as a template. As for all users being able to shutdown the system, you can change this by running "gdmsetup".
Okay, I give up... where in gdmsetup do you configure shutdown? I see all sorts of accessability options, and login options, but nothing pertaining to ordinary users being able to shut down the system (I've got this on a single-user laptop).
Gotcha now... I only get "Logout" or "Restart the Computer" options, though. Is that all the normal user gets to do? There's gotta be a workaround somehow... (wringing hands in a mad-scientist-like manner).
