I've been running Ubuntu at work for quite some time and it is rock solid. But, I'm enjoying using ports in FreeBSD to compile from source. It is a tough choice, but, my second favourite OS is now FreeBSD.
I am an avid Slackware user since 10.0. Started out with RH 9 and then tried Fedora and SuSE for a while. My 2nd favorite OS is Arch. Arch is very much like Slackware with added advantage of Pacman. Also Arch's wiki is very nicely done with lots of good info.
I am also running Debian Etch and Fedora Core 6 (installed a few days back) but I'll most likely replace it with either Mepis or Zenwalk. I am kinda in two minds right now.
I use Suse 10.1 because it installed with few problems and it works pretty well, but, it is slow compared to Slack, and hiding behind the GUI has kept me from learning how to dig in and make things work the way I want. Between Slack 11 and Suse I can do everything I want, but I prefer Slackware going forward.
I am concerned about Novell's partnership with Microsoft, and I may be leaving Suse behind.
Distribution: Slackware 11.0; Kubuntu 6.06; OpenBSD 4.0; OS X 10.4.10

I read through four pages of replies, and so far no one has mentioned that debian, gentoo, ubuntu, zenwalk, etc. are not operating systems, they are distributions of the GNU/linux operating system.
Examples of other "operating systems" would be Windows (listed in the poll), Solaris, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, FreeDOS, Plan9, BeOS, etc.
If sometime after the fourth page, someone else mentioned this discrepancy, I apologize for wasting your time.
I chose SUSE mainly because it's the only distro I've had installed for over a day. I'd like to try Arch, but I get past the install and give up. (You Arch users have my undying respect)
FreeDOS is really cool, and I would like to try using ReactOS as a replacement for Windows but the installer doesn't like my partition table for some reason
gnu/linux is one os whild *bsd is another along with OS X and Windows. However slackware, gentoo, ubuntu, and so on are all distro's with different ideas. People still confuse linux as an os. It is just the kernel.
Slackware & Debian has never let me down when it came to installing a distro. I've had problems, not in the past couple of years, with some distros such as Suse, Mandrake, Fedora and some others that just wouldn't act rite.
But everytime I installed Slack & Debian they would work like a charm, no fuss, no mess, no runs & no errors.

I'm very fond of Debian as well, I ran Etch beta 3 and liked it a lot. I may run it again when Etch is formally released.

Yeah, I sometimes vaguely think about trying another version of Linux, but, no other version of Linux is as responsive as Slack. I'm a slacker for life:-)
