The way firefox deals ftp sites has changed.
A few days ago it just opened the ftp site and to download a file one had just to click on the file name.
Now firefox asks to choose a web browser to open the ftp site. Once it is chosen, I am asked to open xdg-open.
How to make firefox use the old way ?
The release notes give a ridiculous explanation: "FTP support has been disabled, and its full removal is planned for an upcoming release. Addressing this security risk reduces the likelihood of an attack while also removing support for a non-encrypted protocol."
Bug 1574475 deals with the removal of FTP support. The main reason why FTP is being removed
is that it is considered insecure but Google's decision to remove support from Chrome
certainly played a role in Mozilla's decision to remove support as well.
Mozilla could have opted for implementing support for secure FTP in Firefox;
a bug was filed 19 years ago to introduce support for SFTP in Firefox but nothing ever came out of it.
Distribution: Slackware64 15.0 (started with 13.37). Testing -current in a spare partition.

Firefox changed the history button too (the clock one), it doesn't show the full history anymore by site and date.
I need two buttons to see the history.
I'm switching to Seamonkey, hope that Mozilla doesn't change Seamonkey too.
(and if Thunderbird changes, I will switch to Seamonkey's mail.
Back to the Navigator suite )

I don't use that button. I have the Menu Bar enabled. History > Show All History gets me there (Ctrl+Shift+ H).
