I have the same card on my old PIII computer and it works fine with Slack 13.1. Did you run alsamixer and make sure that the channels are not muted?

By the way, this card has an on-board speaker (I think) which I couldn't manage to mute. I always have sound coming from inside the chassis. This doesn't happen when running Windows. Does anyone know how to solve this?
