Don't complain about current!

This may be unpopular, but I'm ready for your flame!

The 'current' branch of Slackware is in development.
If you are the pioneering type, then by all means give current a go.
(Likewise with the latest kernel)
We all like the latest version of everything don't we?
There will always be the occaisional problem with current, and the trouble that
many people go to to fix these issues are contributing to the groundwork for the next stable release.

Some people gain pleasure from discussing and fixing problems on this forum, (I am one such) but I don't think it is right to complain when something goes awry, if you are in the development branch. I am also sceptical of people who recommend (esp to newbies) that upgrading to current will fix their problem, (at least not unless they really know what they are talking about).

There. I've said it. Shoot!

Riiight! Dude umm I donno how to tell you this but everything in "current" works so far, I have not encountered an error yet.. some bugs yes but they were easy to fix. These bugs are:

1) all of /dev 's permissions were restored to there default state, (I had to chmod my soundcard and stuff again)

2) When upgrading to Kde 3.2.2 you have to relink xinitrc.kde to xinitrc inorder for KDE to start up as the default windermanager.

I am running kernel 2.6.6 with Slackware-current which is updated every 3 days.

LMAO.....most people don't read these, here have a gander at this........

[Standard disclaimer follows... ]

Welcome to Slackware-current!

Slackware-current is a snapshot of the active Slackware development tree.
It is intended to give developers (and other Linux gurus) a chance to test
out the latest packages for Slackware.
The feedback we get will allow us
to make the next stable release better than ever.

See the ChangeLog.txt for a list of changes in Slackware-current.

Please note that the code in this directory is unstable. It might be
inconsistent about which version of the Linux kernel is required, could be
incomplete because it's in the process of being uploaded, or might not work
for other reasons. In most cases, we know about these things and are working
to correct them, but still -- feel free to point out the bugs.

Enjoy!

No flame here. You're right, I don't feel like I have anything to complain about when I do anything in linux, I didn't pay for support and I don't expect it. I knew what I was signing up for when I answered "yes" under "do you really want to delete windows partition?". I swtched to linux to learn and I've been able to find all the answers either in forums or God forbid, the README files.

And Google IS my friend!

I didn't have this problem. I just d/l'd the .tgz, ran installpkg, rebooted my machine out of habbit, came back on, issued startx, and voila... KDE 3.2.2

not sure bout the /dev issue your talking about, but I didn't seem to have any problems with that either. I could be wrong and just over looked it tho.

thanks 320mb, that says it better than I did.
My concern is that many people seem to think current is just 9.1 + updates.
The fact that many people have few or no problems with it may well be true,
but it was not my point.
