Does the country of France still take the entire month of August off for vacation?
I once made the mistake of leaving Paris on a short vacation and returning
the last weekend of August.
The traffic jam was epic!
That was a long time ago and I don't remember if the traffic was back up
for 80 miles or 50 kilometers, Doesn't matter. People were were out of their cars and walking their dogs, etc., etc., etc.

I've heard they re-named the Etoile to, Place Charles De Gaulle?

« Place de l’étoile » is probably the hardest traffic circle in Paris, or even in France
here in Paris we still use the old name «Place de l’étoile» ( but you’re right, the name changed in 1970)

They didn't rename it, here in Paris we still use the old name «Place de l’étoile» ( but you’re right, the name changed in 1970)
but there is a metro station named "Charles de Gaulle - Etoile".
People (cars) darting into the circle from the side streets was the scariest part as they had the right of way, IIRC. Takes good peripheral vision to avoid them.
I can't find anyone who was forced to use Slackware
Slackware-current is not the only distribution that supports modern hardware
But if you choose to use -current, you have to accept the constraints
The fact there is a current is amazing. He could have just not done current, and only done releases
WTF? Hardware support is basically in the KERNEL, not the distro. My main Multilib 14.2 install runs 5.0.20. There are people posting here that run 14.2 nicely with 5.13.x. Hardware support is a non-issue friends.... AND Slackware is THE easiest distro upon which to build whatever kernel you want because Slackware is Vanilla. Others? Not so much.

Of course
But I think people are talking about something more or less ready to use "out-of-the-box"
And, on modern hardware, I don't think this is the case for slackware 14.2 with its shipped 4.4.x kernel
