Current 64 bit 3.14.5 installation
Has anyone tried to install the latest current (64 bit) from either a DVD or USB? I'm trying to do an install from my USB jump drive. I had no problems on my netbook. However, my desktop hangs after "Booting kernel". No panics, no anything. No output whatsoever. It just stops there. Makes it difficult to troubleshoot. This particular desktop is a little older than my netbook. However, it is not THAT old. Any help would be appreciated.

Did a clean install using Eric's DVD of Slackware64-current this morning on a Dell dual core box. My box is a bit older. Install went without a hitch.

I'm thinking it's hardware related. I'm guessing I'm probably the only one with this problem. I can always install 14.1 and go from there. However, I'm hoping I'm not the only one with this issue.

To me, based on what you've said, it sounds much like a boot loader issue. I'm curious if there is any hard drive activity after the hang. If no hd activity can be detected (sound or hd indicator led), then more information about boot loader details might be suggested.

Ever since the switch to the 3.14 kernel series, I've been getting some weird behavior on two very similar desktops that I have. For example, during a reboot, the computer would just sit there idle not completing the reboot process. Kind of a pain when working on the box remotely.
I get no disk activity at all during the install process. I even left it running for 30 minutes just in case, but nothing changed. I'm going to install 14.1 in there, which I know it works.

I've heard mixed reports on the 3.14 kernel branch, so I've been staying on the 3.10 branch, but keeping it updated (especially with recent kernel related security issues). I updated to 3.10.42 last night and haven't found any breakage yet.

The 3.10 series has been pretty solid for me so far.
