Cure for bad CUPS 1.3.7 Patch?

Hi all,

I read the caveat that came with the 4/3/2008 CUPS 1.3.7 patch, but decided to install it anyway (on Slackware 12.0). After installation and restarting the CUPS server, I had serious issues with my networked printers served by CUPS.

When I tried to print on my Xerox copier/printer (Workcentre 5030, printing in "raw" mode), the Xerox printed an error page that said "Immediate image overwrite failed." The CUPS error log gave several "Failed to read side-channel request!" messages. I had a similar situation with my networked HP color Laserjet 4600dn.

Does anybody know how to fix this problem? I did a quick "installpkg" of the CUPS 1.2.11 that came with Slackware 12.0 to get the printers working again, but I'd prefer to be patched.

Thanks,
GL

No.

I also had a problem with CUPS 1.3. It appears to be impossible to print with Java applications and CUPS 1.3. This is a known bug (in Java rather than CUPS) but Sun do not appear to be giving it high priority.

I had the same thing happen to me in that it hosed HP Dev Mgr.
Couldn't fix it and needed a printer fast so I reinstalled Slack 12 and black listed cups & hplip from slackpkg.

Yes it was drastic but a least Slack is fast to install.
I re-installed the original cups but HP Dev Mgr was still broke afterwards and I had to have my printer right away.
Perhaps if I had more knowledge I could have fixed it without resorting to winderz tactics.
