Question Creating pop/imap users

Gotta basic question. Running Slackware 8.1 with latest patched Sendmail. I need to add a few mailboxes. The readers won't need to access the linux at all, just pop/imap mail.

The only way I know how to do this now is to use adduser to create new accounts and set passwords. How do I add mail only users?

For the pop services the mail account and user account are the same thing. They both use the /etc/passwd and shadow files. I have no idea about imap, except I think there is something in /etc/inetd.conf to enable for the service.
