Hello,
Finally getting my network to work properly I next set out to get my sound and ATI drivers to work. I looked at all the howtos and a few questions were raised. First, I looked at a bunch of different ways that you can get your sound working, but none seem to get me an exact way to do it. Secondly, which driver should I be using with a X850XT. They all seem to talk about the cards slightly newer and slightly older than mine. Thanks again.

Do you have sound as root? Are you a member of the audio group? Check the settings in alsamixer, you may have some digital and some analog settings. Some cards can't do both.
Good luck. ;-)
I've tried turning them all up and none of it seems to work...any ideas? I tried turning them up in root too and that didnt seem to work either. Ideas?
I think I figured it out...I was just reading saying that in base slackware installs you must be in the sys group in order to use the internal sound card...But my root account was already in it so that could not have been it.

I turned them all the way up and unmuted them, but I later found the cause of the problem. The setting were not getting saved. I needed to save the changes. Now I know...Problem solved though...
