For those of you that use root-tail what is your command "string". I am trying to set it up and right now I am typing
Code:
root-tail \var\log\sys
but there is now output on the screen or anything. I opened up a second kernel and ran 'updatedb' to have the computer log something. I would like to setup this up I think this an awesome tool. How have you guys done it?
You must also make sure the user has permissions to access the logs. I created a group called "logreaders", added the users I wanted to allow access to the logs to that group, and then changed the group of the logs to logreaders. Voila.
Yes, first locate your desktop window id :
xwininfo
Then click on the desktop window, my id is : 0xc00003
You indicate this window to root-tail with -id option, like :
root-tail -id 0xc00003 --noinitial \
-g 800x250+50+50 \
/var/log/apache/access_log,green,'HTTPD Access'
