compiling libraries so they install to */lib64

what system variables should I set to what
and what options do I pass to ./configure
so it builds and install libraries in */lib64

come on a 64bit system should be native 64bit not guest 64bit
the guest should be 32bit as in /lib32 for multilib

Try:
--libdir=lib64

did that it still installed the libraries to /usr/lib NOT /usr/lib64

Well, some few libraries will install to /usr/lib/ only.

Which library is this about ? ?

Take a look at the slackbuild scripts on Slackbuilds.org to get an idea of how to compile. These build scripts work on both Slackware and Slackware64 and put libs in the correct place.

I have 35GigB of disk space wasted on a windoze install just to configure the transmitter for
my R/C helicopter (on a 100GigB HDD)
there is a program to configure it that was written in mono basic that runs on linux BUT there
is NO binary mono packages for slackware

I want windoze off my computer and my HDD space back

this is the slackbuild for mono, it should install to the correct libraries by default.

I've found that sometimes as well as setting --libdir=/usr/lib64 I have to use --with-libdir=lib64 to get things where I want on manual compilation. I haven't done enough checking to find out why though, so I don't know whether it will work in your case.

It depends on which type of configuration is used by the sources. What has already been suggested usually works for sources using autoconf, but other systems such as cmake have to be handled differently.
