cmedia 8738, surround

it works

after houres of frustration it works. So here are the steps you can take to make your cmedia 8738 work:

1. first you have to include the cmedia 8738 driver into your kernel(for kernel compilling just take a look at this: link)
My settings are:
- sound card support as a module.
- cmedia PCI (CMI8338/8738): module
- support CMI 8738 based audio cards: yes
- number of speakers: 6
- Use line-in as Bass: yes

2. download this link
- unpack it.

3. To install it:
- first look at the base adress of your cmedia chip. Do cat /proc/ioports
and this will give you:
...
e400-e4ff : C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738
e400-e4ff : CMI8738-MC6
...
In this case, the base address is 0xe400.

- Do ./configure --with-cmibase=0xe400.
- make
- make install
- your done

4. Configuring the options:
- su
- To run GUI interface do gcmictl or cmictl for shell
- Turn on surround and 4 speaker mode, et voila you have surround
