I started my Linux experience with Slackware, quite by accident (whatever distro I tried in install first did not cooperate with me).
It was a happy accident. Thanks to learning how to use Slackware, I find no other distro intimidating, because Slackware taught me how to figure stuff out. Figuring stuff out is a quite valuable skill . . . .
I started Linux with Mandrake 5.3 and then 6.0. I quit Mandrake at version 7.2 and started to play with Slackware 7.1 only for fun. When I felt comfortable with Slackware, I started to play with Linux From Scratch. Got tired and returned to Slackware 11 and have been using it since. I work with SLES 11, but have Slackware installed in 3 machines of my own plus 3 virtual machines in the office. All my windows installations have one Slackware VM at least.
