checkinstall doesn't work anymore

Any time I try to use it with my Slackware 10.0 I receive this error:
/usr/local/bin/installwatch: line 345: 10084 Segmentation fault
Any one can help?

hash out:
#/lib/libsafe.so.2
in /etc/ld.so.preload while you do checkinstall

Well, thanks tobyl! That worked for me! (it stoped working since i was trying to compile xbill and it didn't work anymore) however i have no idea what caused checkinstall to stop working or how you fixed it like that, anybody care to say? Thx

The latest checkinstall never worked for me, I always got that error.

Never bothered to find a fix for it, the older version worked fine.
