change link for cd-writer

I' have reinstalled my slack 8.1 box, and now I have to reconfigure some settings .

I remeber that after putting append="hdc=ide-scsi" into the lilo.conf file , one have to change a link to get the right driver .

I have been searching this forum , but I cant find the info about this link-change ?

run this

dmesg | grep CD

look for something like this
sr0 at scsi0

this means that your cd is now /dev/sr0

now you can change cdrom to sr0 in /etc/fstab

or like you were saying you can make it a link to sr0 like this

ln -sf /dev/sr0 /dev/cdrom

I have a cdrom at /dev/hdc and a cdrw at /dev/sr0

so I made links like this

ln -sf /dev/hdc /dev/cdrom
ln -sf /dev/sr0 /dev/cdrw

it's up to you how you want to set it up

The panic of reconfigure is now almost over !

priority order of configure my slack box:

1: get soundcard working
2: compile my favourite visual-plugin for xmms
3: start xmms . . .
4: fiddle with the rest of the system . .
