can't startx using ordinary user.


i've added a user using

useradd turf
passwd turf and so on..
after loggin, i can't startx..
any help please.

Any infos from console? Have a look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log

You probably have not created a home directory.
You should better use adduser.

Xorg.0.log is too long.. but i can see module isn't loaded
and when ever i write $startx, it prompt a permission problem stating the user don't have a permission to create a /home/

i got it now. and indeed adduser work well.

i deleted the user i've created thru userdel username

then create it again using adduser username
and it work great. thanks

Hi,

Be sure to add the user to the following groups:
Quote:
users floppy audio video cdrom plugdev power netdev
You can get the above suggested groups after the 'users' group prompt by pressing the up-arrow (please note the message prompt). This line can be edited via normal kybd edit keys.
