Can't boot with SATA

I finally instaled Slack on my new box.......
but I cant boot my pc

I made my custom install cd with SATA suport (Maxtor sata drive) this way

1.grabbed kernel 2.6.4
2. extracted it into a directory
3.copied the config file from bare.i on slack install cd into my kernel2.6.4 folder as CONFIG
4.make menuconfig
5.enabled scsi low level device Y for SATA
6.exit save
7.make bzImage
8.copied bzImage and System.map.gz into slacks bare.i folder
9.made an ISO
10.burned the ISO
11.installed slack

but.......

Her is my problem,
when I try to boot the process stops at this point:

hdg: maxtor ATA disk drive
hdh: probing with STATUS(0x00) instead of(0x50)
blk: queuec03aaa7c, I\O limit 4095MB (mask 0xffffffff)
hdg: attached ide disk driver

what can I do now???

At point #5 you said enabled SATA. I have been having a headache trying to get this to work for a month now. (You have actually given me some new ideas, but...) you may need to just enable your particuliar version of sata. (Like I recall mine is a VIA?? (Asus P4P800 Deluxe). I can't remember, but hopefully you get the idea...) The versions are right underneath where you enabled SATA....

So, Pick enable SATA and pick a chipset....(so you will have to check off 2 diff things at least under low level drivers...) I actually got it to boot off a floppy (Custom kernel- and recognize the HD, but I couldn't get it to go back and recogize the floopy as the root device...) I have been messing with this tonight. I think I need to run rdev on the floppy to enable it as root device so as to run my root floppies and then run the setup CD after that...at least this is my BIG plan!
Oh my head hurts.

Let me know...
