Did you try to correct it with xgamma command:

xgamma -gamma #

where "#" is the value for the gamma you want to set. I had the opposite problem then you: screen got too dark (nvidia), so I used a positive value. Try with a negative value (like -1) and see if that helps.

Regards!

i tryed...
xgamma -gamma 0.1 ..is minimum i can set
but screen still too much bright

..and i have another problem
since in played with ati installation even bios startup screen got screwed up,
with some strange offset and the fonts are totally antialiased. So much that i cannot correct it with monitor settings.
i have LCD monitor. This screen continues untill inittab starts. fonts then goes ok but screen goes even more offset (verticaly).
i cannot see prompt to login. then i login (not seeing what i typing) and startx (xorg with generic ati radeon drivers) and
desktop loads normal.

i tryed start computer with another graphic card (nvidia) but bios startup look ok
i also tryed this Ati card on another computer and also looked ok

dont no whats wrong..

i found the problem ...you wont believe it

all this happend (brightness and screwed bios startup) because i started computer with tv-out cable pluged in to graphic card
if i start computer with cable unpluged everything works ok
i have wireless a/v link to tv maybe this is causing the trouble

bye
