First world problems. It'll be tough, but I'm sure we'll pull through.

Has this selective thread blocking on a per user basis been suggested in the feedback subforum? If not, then maybe you should. I support the suggestion. It is a good compromise between punishing all participants and banning the "offending" member.

I hope Slackware doesn't get released for a long time.
I don't have time to play with a new version right now anyway.
And after all, real men only need Xterm and Vi.
I feel almost that way, but not really because I fear with some of the sentiment expressed if the release didn't happen sometime this year it might drive a few away. But yes, for myself, 14.2 is working very well in not distracting me from my major projects and what's in -current is not relevant except for some bugs in calligra sheets I want to try my hand at fixing. But those bugs are way down my list of tasks, probably not on a 2020 time frame.

I'm also a bit nervous about the upgrade. I had actually switched over to debian (partly work related reasons that no longer apply) a couple years ago for awhile. Then in the buster upgrade suddenly mpv (or really something in X and/or the kernel?) wouldn't play dvds fast enough for them to be watchable. That convinced me to switch back to Slackware (still had the partition with it). I'm crossing my fingers that Pat's extensive experience and care vs. most Debian developers will avoid the problem for me in 15.0, but it's hard to say cause I don't know exactly what caused it.

For those considering switching, if you really mean it, think hard. Remember that Slackware really is very good. When I switched back from Debian and started using it again I was a bit angry with myself for not having switched back sooner or for switching away in the first place.

Haha! Vi is my favorite editor.
I'm going to transition 4 of my Slackware64-current boxes to 15.0 when released. I'm planning to use KDE5 on my last 2 -current boxes when Plasma arrives in the -current branch. That will be a glorious day.

Reading several of the preceding posts made me consider exactly who was the "offending member", especially in a thread that can only be answered one way by one PV. I suppose that member that started the tangent regarding rules of conduct and whether someone should be stifled, censored or banned was once again, ivandi. I actually don't have a big problem with that since I'm pretty sure that for quite some time now his contribution to the Slackware sub-section has been almost entirely negative and with no possibility of solution.

My posts regarding this subject of pros and cons for banning any member rely on the idea of sticking to the point, minimizing distraction, and IMHO whether or not ivandi or anyone else used what someone else considers profanity is beside the point, especially since I think I demonstrated that "profanity" is entirely subjective and actually meaningless. In some company saying "Your Mother likes cats" approaches a profane statement. Let's please not waste our time on such inanities.

The only relevant concerns when discussing whether or not a member should be banned from a topic, a sub-section, or entirely from LQN, is the preponderance of evidence as to whether they ever offer anything helpful or useful, or if they simply try to start fights on purpose to derail the value of LQN in part or as a whole.

Vi? Vim?

REAL men, REAL women and REAL small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri all use
Code:
echo "text" >> filename
Or Kate.

Actually the only reason I'm not using current now on at least some of my PCs is that I'm hoping 15 will be ready soon.

Kate?
You mean "Bob"?
(It's both off topic and on topic but in an off topic way, since this sound clip was made by someone from the church of the subgenius a long time ago, which is related to Slackware)
(What a thing to have though, like, it's not like I have a big collection of that kind of thing, in fact, that's the only thing I've saved for reasons I don't even know...)

Back on topic, then...

How soon are we going to get Slackware 15.0? Is it ready now?

Which, frankly, is fine. Technology is inherently political, as a brief perusal of IEEE's Annals of the History of Computing, or any of the vast array of literature being written in the field of Science and Technology Studies will make clear. We shouldn't shy away from that, or pretend that reality is something other than it is.
I can go almost anywhere on the internet and bath in political bs. (And, in fact, I do just that thing in other places.)

I don't want to do it here. I would like a place where I'm not bathing in filth.

Not an editor, actually.

No. At the very beginning was ed, which made everything real... and so glad am I to be a fake.
