Why do some people feel such a need to advertise their political views in technical threads?
The problem is these types of threads rarely stay technical and almost always veer off-topic.
The simple answer to any thread asking about how close 15.0 is or how soon will it be released is: we don't know. Some of us might feel that is is getting close, but it's just speculation. Once that is stated in the first reply or two, then almost everything beyond will eventually lead to off-topic, which many times brings in politics.
Plenty of others chimed in saying that his participation in the military was something they thought was a good thing. My contrary view on the same matter was no more political than theirs...
Contrary views are not a problem; your words, however,

If anything is worthy of clutching pearls over, it's the glorification of militaries that's on display in this thread. It desensitizes us to the value of human life. We'd be better off without it. I realize that many of you may not be Christians, but I am, and Jesus said "love your enemy." Using violence against one's enemy is not compatible with that, and I pray daily for the repentance of the millions who are complicit in such violence.
Really, the "snowflake" stuff at the end is a bit rich coming from someone who goes full Chicken Little over strong language...
Sorry have to feed the troll for a moment...And I assume/presume that Jesus will "passively" conquer evil through war?
You're using an OS that has daemons involved, Slackware is closely aligned with Slacking, Slacking Off, Grateful Dead, Church of the SubGenius....
back to our regularly scheduled threads...
PS: I think this person uses different usernames for his trolling.....
Please, boys and girls, just hold your water for a while longer ...
But I really reeeaaallllly neeeeed...
Sorry, I'll try harder. But it was either post or use my previously mentioned ignore file (coffee hasn't kicked in yet and the smoke is making me short tempered).
Back on topic: Some use cases need bullet proof stable, and for these 14.2 isn't too old and does the job; 15 will be available when it's ready, and until then we'll wait. Other use cases need newer even at some (affordable) cost and current works here. Version numbers don't really matter, we're not trying to sell a second hand car here.
Do not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, hostile or insulting.
Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated.
Flame Wars will not be tolerated.
Do not post if you do not have anything constructive to say in the post.
When posting in an existing thread, ensure that what you're posting is on-topic and relevant to the thread. If the content of your post will interfere with the current discussion, you should start a new thread.
Challenge others' points of view and opinions, but do so respectfully and thoughtfully ... without insult and personal attack. Differing opinions is one of the things that make this site great.
If no one can stay on topic this thread will be closed.

Michael, I know this has been asked before in other threads, but why not block/ban the offending person(s) instead of closing/locking an entire thread.

What's the point in keeping the thread even open? The topic has been "solved" and the last several pages has been mostly off-topic anyway...
But another will be opened and we'll have to read it all over again. Closing threads is not the answer apparently because a new one is always started and then it drifts into derailment. Blocking the troll from the thread is a good idea. Everyone shouldn't suffer because of someone else's actions.

Damn, I missed all this action!
I hope Slackware doesn't get released for a long time.
I don't have time to play with a new version right now anyway.
And after all, real men only need Xterm and Vi.
