Annoying cursor behaviour

Hi!
I'm quite satisfied with my current prompt cursor which is a blinking underscore. Unfortunately, after exiting the xemacs editor, with C-x C-c command, my prompt cursor becomes a large blinking rectangle which is extremely disturbing (in fact, unbearable for me); I only can fix that by rebooting the system. It is to mention that, under xemacs, the cursor is still the nice blinking underscore. Could anybody please tell me: (1) which shell command may help to change back the blinking rectangle into a blinking underscore?; or even better (2) how to exit emacs in order not to alter my default (blinking underscore) cursor? Please keep in mind that I'm working not under X but under command line!
Thanks a lot for any solution!

For those which are also interested in controlling the cursor. Googling "\033[?2c", I've understood this sequence and its general pattern by accessing http://fxr.watson.org/fxr/diff/Docum....6.9;diffvar=v
Other examples are given.
Thanks again kodon!
