firefox erratic cursor behaviour

Hi, I have noticed, since upgrading firefox, that the cursor does not do what I expect. When I wish to move the cursor back by pressing and holding the left arrow key, the cursor will go back a few characters then jump up a line and continue for a bit then maybe jump again. If I then move it forwards using the right arrow key, it sometimes gets stuck in a loop betweeen two points in the text, seemingly at random.
This happens while replying to lq posts and writing hotmail messages so it is not confined to lq. It does not happen in any other text editing programs so i assume it has something to do with firefox.
Any ideas?
