Not sure if I could get that complicated pointy-clicky thingy down.
Anybody have a pic of how it's done?
Better yet.
Could somebody come do it for me?
Gods it's so advanced!
I'm doomed! http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...th_pcwhack.gif

I can only imagine the horrific look on his face when he found out that GNOME is not included in Slackware.... haha, guess he didn't make it that far.

So I noticed that there is a new release coming soon for slackware. how long has 12 been around, like since warty warthog days? it looks really old.

Does anybody know? Maybe the new one will be usably up-to-date with some way to install software properly like yum or apt-get? Maybe even start in X like any even almost new distro does?

Its obvisouly better for you to stay away from Slackware.
Most of the points you are trying to make on your first post will never change. I am reffering to all, besides 5 & 7 which work just fine.
Bye.

What is a jackelope? Is it the result of some inter-species breeding experiment? A jackal+antelope? Weird. Can't think why such an abomination would be jaunty.

6 of the 8 boxes in my house don't have or need a monitor. Please, as a self-professed (yet, obviously dead-wrong) Ubuntu expert, explain why those boxes need X?

A real expert wouldn't have had any issues with Slackware. Come back after your 14th birthday, and try again.

cheers,

So it's true: distros can fool users, hide all the essential knowledge to them and turn them into dumb users...

Here's what I found --

1) The installer is TEXT BASED. What is that? I felt like I was installing DOS.

2) The installer DOESN'T EVEN SET UP PARTITIONS FOR YOU. It took me forever to figure out that I was expected to use fdisk myself. What is this, the stone age?

3) Once it IS installed, it comes up to a bare console. No GUI. I reinstalled twice before I figured out that it was supposed to be like that, I guess. Why? Why would a distro not start up to a GUI? Again, I feel like I am using DOS. You have to log in and THEN start X with startx. WHY?

4) No apt-get or yum. Even rpm doesn't work right, and debs don't work at all. How do you install more software? How can you even upgrade to a newer kernel without these most basic tools? Do you have to build stuff from C code? All the time?

5) WIFI doesn't work AT ALL.

6) There are almost no tools to configure the system. There isn't even a System Settings dialog.

7) Sound doesn't work at all.

I could go on and on. I finally just wiped my drive.

I did some reading and found that slackware is like the oldest distro. It seems wierd that anybody still uses it since it is not updated anymore for a long time, I guess.

Why hasn't it been updated at all? There are like none of the features of modern, up-to-date distros like Ubuntu. How and why do all of you people use this thing?

This is the definition from Urban Dictionary. A cross between a jack rabbit and antelope .. not right at all. This made me worried from the definition :

Not right - just not right at all ! Not really something I'd name my distro after anyway !

A Ubuntu Expert. Does that mean you've got a Black Belt in Sudo?

That sounds worse than Brokeback Mountain.

I can't answer your questions, but I'm fairly certain tordfurden is swedish for "bag of hammers".
