Depending on the card, you could perhaps compile a linux driver for your card and bypass ndiswrapper entirely. My second desktop has a Linksys WMP54G (version 4), and I've just put Slackware 11.0. The Linksys has a Ralink rt2500 chipset. I downloaded the driver from
here, compiled it, modprobed it, and edited the rc.inet1.conf and rc.wireless conf files in /etc/rc.d, and I was in business.
