Abiword Crash

Has anyone else had any trouble saving an Abiword File in any other format except abiword format. I take some work home and I can open a .doc or .rtf file in abiword but if I make changes I can't save it, and it crashes. So, I wind up saving the file in my text editor NEdit as a .txt file then I have to move it over to windows and open that in word. It's a pain in the butt. I haven't really had time to look up any solutions on this. If anyone has any suggestions let me know.
