Do I have to have them? I can't edit them out of the boot anywhere?

Also noticed something else; mouse scroll doesn't work anymore. The third button still works so would I just have to recompile the kernel until I get the right mouse combination? The options are still in the xorg.conf so I think it's my bad on the kernel part.

I can so though that I'm satisfied, I have a working kernel with only a few kinks in it. I never thought I'd ever be able to compile my own kernel.

For mouse scrolling I believe you have to add:
Code:
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4,5"
to xorg.conf in the mouse section

ok, if it boots and works, you can always add more functionality ,
by just compiling extra modules you'll need.

in a few steps( for the oss emulation modules )
go to the source directory and type " make xconfig " ( do not " make clean " )
in ----character devices>sound>alsa mark all oss-emulation modules
as module ( a dot )
then save the config file and run:

make modules && make modules_install
then that error should be gone...

mdarby: I have that already in my xorg.conf. It just isn't working after my compile :S.

egag: Thanks for that information, I'm at a buddies house right now so I'll try that as soon as I get home.

There might be other errors I don't see, does the boot process get logged somewhere so I can see the other errors.

The boot messages are not logged, but you can echo them to a file by:
dmesg > log.txt

Sorry for the late reply. I was busy with homework yesterday and today I have a soccer practice after school. I wont be able to try these until Thursday or Friday.

I'll post back my results as soon as I am able to try them.

Module questions

I was reading down through these posts and some other posts within LinuxQuestions.org and LinuxForum.org on the 2.6.xx kernel upgrade in Slackware 10.1. I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer me on either forum:

How do I know which modules to install with the kernel? There really isn't an explanation of these modules anywhere that I have found. How can I obtain details about the modules that I need to install with my system, keeping in mind future hardware/software updates?

I've already tried to install the Kernel 2.6.10, and had a Kernel Panic error. I'm assuming it was because of modules being installed. Any help with explanations of modules would be appreciated.

P.S. Do I use lspci and write down the pci stuff I have installed and get the corresponding module? Not too sure...
