Everything so far in 12.2 seems to work quite well, accept for the dvd burner. Reads but will not write. Never had this issue until 12.2. Tested back with 12.1 just in case my hardware was starting to fail and it works just fine. Buffer IO error during boot, and also a similar error message like stated in the CHANGES and HINTS file. It is not a permissions problem. Its just all day buffer IO errors.
Just wondering if anyone has had said problem and If anyone has any suggestions about where I should look into this.

The "Buffer IO error" should be followed by something like "This disc has not any track I recognize", which means you have a new CDR / DVD R / etc. in your drive.
Attach your complete dmesg, and give a detailed description of what you have done, what you expected the system to do, what actually happened.
All i am trying to do is burn a cd/dvd. For some reason I cannot get it done with the cli or k3b.
here is the dmesg tail(too much data to post whole thing):
Code:
cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0

Yeah the buffer IO is when a blank disc is inserted. That is normal, but the not writing part is not cool. I hate to give up, but I need a working system. Back to 12.1 I go. This has never happened with any other version of Slackware. Just weird I say!!
Maybe I'll have time to slap an old hard drive in and mess around with it.
I have to retract my 12.2 being the issue. The drive is starting to fail in 12.1 now as well, ie "I have to lower the speed". Maybe the new kernel is more strict when it comes to hardware. I have to test it in a windows machine to be 100% sure. Just thought I would update..

here is the problem it is not your drive or k3b.
there is a problem with the cdrtools pkg cdrtools-2.01.01a53-i486-1 in slackware/ap uninstall it and go here and build it
Could be hardware. Could be software. Recently I started a similar thread.
In my case I had both happening. My DVD burner now refuses to read any CD, let alone burn as I posted originally. Yet I also am convinced there is a software issue as I have a different box with a CD-only burner and I cannot burn CDs under 12.2. I reverted the cdrtools package to the one in 12.1 and I can burn CDs in that box with no problems.
As few people are reporting this problem I don't have much else to offer. Would be nice to determine the root cause for those of us who have had problems.
