I'm not really understand but I think you may need to recompile the wine package against new mesa libs.

So initial testing on my laptop (965 chip) with stock kernel and intel 2.7.1, but otherwise all these packages is {anecdotally,marginally,not-overly-noticably} worse, but totally livable. We should find an objective way to measure - I was using the KDE FPS monitor, and got results like:
orignal -current: 100 fps while idle, 8 fps when moving a 'wobbly window' around
-current with 2.7.99.902: same as above except 12 fps when moving a wobbly window
these packages: 100 fps while idle, 60-80 fps when moving a wobbly window
these packages with 2.7.1 driver from -current: 100fps when idle, 28-30 fps when moving a wobbly window.
Hope this helps.

Right.. but could be be so kind and check with 2.7.1 and EXA against the either genric or huge 2.6.29.6-smp kernel? The beta drivers are just there for people experiencing trouble with 2.7.1 (and people who want to tinker and/or know what they are doing)
Thanks in regard

Your actually right, so these are other test
Kernel 2.6.29.6-smp
Intel 2.7.1
Current package :
With EXA : Everything work -
GlxGears (although not attendible)
305 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.930 FPS
299 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.716 FPS
With UXA : xserver start but for example glxgears texture are corrupted and in general I see glitches in 3D enabled application
GlxGears (although not attendible and corrupted texture)
2335 frames in 5.0 seconds = 466.793 FPS
2320 frames in 5.0 seconds = 463.971 FPS
Robby Pakages:
With EXA : Everything work -
GlxGears (although not attendible)
285 frames in 5.005 seconds = 56.943 FPS
300 frames in 5.007 seconds = 59.916 FPS
With UXA : Everything work -
GlxGears (although not attendible)
2368 frames in 5.001 seconds = 473.505 FPS
2515 frames in 5.000 seconds = 503.000 FPS
I hope it helps

Testing on my PC, slackware64-current with stock kernel. NVIDIA 8600GT, with NVIDIA 190.18 beta driver.
Code:
Linux icarus 2.6.29.6 #2 SMP Mon Jul 13 21:13:11 CDT 2009 x86_64 Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2160 @ 1.80GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
Code:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 8600 GT (rev a1)
Code:
GL_VERSION: 3.1.0 NVIDIA 190.18
GL_RENDERER: GeForce 8600 GT/PCI/SSE2
GL_VENDOR: NVIDIA Corporation
GLU_VERSION: 1.3
GLU_EXTENSIONS: GLU_EXT_nurbs_tessellator GLU_EXT_object_space_tess
GLUT_API_VERSION: 5
GLUT_XLIB_IMPLEMENTATION: 15
All works fine, but KDE 4 compositing is still not working (in xorg 1.6.1 it works), any advice for enabling desktop compositing with the new xorg?

maybe you have to reinstall nvidia driver as some part of it has been overwritten installing the new mesa package.

I have reinstalled the NVIDIA driver, still no compositing. Strangely if I logged in from KDM, I cannot enable compositing, it only works if I start my desktop from console (startx).

Hmm, try rm -rf ~/.kde and relogin through kdm if there is nothing you care about.

what should that solve with regards to not being able to activate compositing? The startup procedure of kde is still the same. kdm doesn't store anything in at least a non-root home-folder. *If* at all someone would have to remove root's .kde, but I seriously doubt even that would have an effect

Add your user to the 'video' group.
Code:
liberty $ ls -l /dev/dri/card0
crw-rw---- 1 root video 226, 0 2009-07-25 16:35 /dev/dri/card0

I have checked it, my login user is already in video group. Still no desktop compositing though.
I have search in google and find other distro also have similar problem:
http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=277310
The link above only mentioned compositing problem on intel graphics, is there anybody using NVIDIA driver having same problem with me?
Thanks.

Me and another user in ##slackware have issues enabling compositing in kde4 on a 32bit System (with nvidia drivers 185.x and 190.x, though I haven't tried yesterday's release yet). However, only with kernel 2.6.30.x. With 2.6.29.6 everything works fine.

How did you check it?
Running "groups" from a terminal is not sufficient - you need to check the /etc/group file instead.
