[TESTING REQUEST] Xorg in -current (yes, again)
EDIT!! Thse links are no longer valid, as the -current tree has all of this (or newer) in it now.
HTTP: link removed RSYNC: link removed Install glew (it's new, needed by mesa). Upgrade everything else *EXCEPT* the intel driver. The 2.8.0 intel driver is perhaps worth a test, but frankly, I don't give a rat's rectum whether it works UNLESS the 2.7.1 driver that's in the stock -current tree doesn't work for you. |
Working great for me, using all of those packages except 2.8 driver.
Performance in Extreme Tux Racer is up, compositing is working in KDE again (in -current xorg-server 1.6.2 breaks it for me). I have an Intel 945GME, using UXA and KMS (custom kernel). |
To clarify something:
I *really* need testing with the stock kernel and such - not custom configs and kernels. I'm not saying that other feedback isn't useful -- it IS -- but the primary concern is this: If we were to ship this stuff in 13.0, would it work "out of the box" on your hardware? |
Works here.
Slack64-C AMD 7750 GeForce 7300 / x86_64-185.18.14 Stock Kernel Installed everything @: http://connie.slackware.com/~rworkma...esting/x86_64/ Thanks for a great distro!!! |
Slackware64-current
GeForce 7300 LE with NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.18.14-pkg2.run 2.6.29.6 kernel I no longer have the desktop cube effects. All else seems OK at this time. |

New testing branch don't break anything here(ATI Xpress 200M), unless 50 more FPS in glxgears ;) |

My bludner. All OK now. Thanks grissiom! glxgears shows ~1600FPS. (Seem to remember ~1520FPS before). |
Hmm Savage S3 on a T21 does not report direct rendering at all (not no nor yes) but glxgears seems to work (~320fps).
That's the only thing I've noticed, but this is only on a test box and not in constant use. |
Oh, good
Thanks Robby, very thanks in notebook (with intel x3100) everything is back to work, with kernel huge and "my" kernel. I used all your packages With "-current" xorg 1.6.2 not working composite and other problems http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...41#post3615041 in desktop (nvidia 6200) all ok, but in desktop everything works even with the -current packages For me is a good update |
everything working fine here on both slackware32 (stock kernel, nvidia) as well as slackware64 (custom kernel 2.6.30.1, nvidia)
|
I hope this will solve the composite problems :) Thank you robby...
EDIT: Yes, it works, thank you robby ;) Code:

X.Org 1.6.1 still works wonderfully. Latest updates moved RC1
back a few weeks. ;) |
Works excellent. Tested with stock generic kernel 2.6.29.6-smp, kernel 2.6.30.3-smp (KMS enabled) and Intel-drivers 2.7.1 and 2.8.0 on EeePC901 with 945GME.

HW: amd780 integrated (hd3200)
No obvious lock-ups or unexpected error/warning messages in xorg.0.log. One observation regarding xine in full screen: plays dvd but interactive menu and controls become sluggish or non-responsive. This using either xf86-video-ati (radeon) or radeonhd. I haven't seen this response with the open source or proprietary driver before with this hardware. I'll reboot in a few and try it with this same movie with other drivers. |
The linked packages work perfectly for me with a stock -current tree on a MSI Windbox appliance. Well done, and in record time, too. Awesome effort.
[edit] Graphics hardware on the Windbox is Intel 945GME. |
