Mid 2011 27" iMac OS X 10.13.3. I have password. How do I access files on the its drive from Linuxmint 20.1 Live session?
iMac stalls booting before login, which indicates bad GPU, but runs Linux live session with full video, so I suspect Mac OS or driver problem. I want to determine correct GPU driver is installe or needs to be reinstalled.
Distribution: Ubuntu based stuff for the most part

Or it might be an error on the disk when reading. I find it hard to believe that MacOS would have a problem with a driver for its own hardware.
The only disk tool I know of hat could fix a read error without formatting the whole disk, is SpinRight, but it aint free.

APFS is the Apple network file sharing protocol if I recall correctly. They use HFS+ for the filesystem, but it has been over 10 years since I last touched a Mac.
Thanks. The drive is not external. Will peruse the links you sent me. If at all possible I want to do it while the drive is in the iMac as it's a real slog to remove and replace. Would appreciate if anyone has comments about doing it with the drive in situ using Linux live session. OS X 10.13.3 does not provide terminal app at the "Restore" page that I can boot to. Later versions do.
Certainly, the easiest way to do this would be to set it up as a network share. Macs support many different Unix/Linux compatible network protocols which might be used, such as NFS.

It's been a long while since I've done that, but back then Apple was using HFS+ for the file system. On Linux Mint would have to add the packages hfsplus, hfsprogs, and hfsutils to mount that. I'd advise mounting it read-only out of caution. However, it may require additional fiddling for a live session.
