Problem with Log in to Ubuntu 18.04

Dear friends,

I do not have much knowledge about Linux, and I am facing a problem that I can not solve! I upgraded some days ago to Ubuntu 18.04, but at the login screen my password has not been accepted. I have tryed it many times in sequence. I can however log in through Ctrl+Alt+F2, typing my username and my password (thanks God!), and I can access my directories without any problem, but I would like to use GUI. I have already searched in internet for a solution, but nothing that I tryed worked. I remember to have used

Code:
rm ~/.Xauthority
sudo killall Xorg
or

Code:
dpkg--configure -a
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
or

Code:
rm -r ~/.local
among other sugestions, but nothing solved the problem.

Another important aspect that I noticed at the login screen is that the traditional buttons of cancel and enter (or something similar) that used to be below the username are not there anymore. There is also no option to change the username (for a guest session, for example).

I ask please for a help. If you need I can paste here the results for any commands that you may need.

Thank you very much!

Do you, by any chance, use a keyboard language other than US-English? There is a bug in Ubuntu, that the keyboard language on the login screen is wrong after a version upgrade.

More info here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1566357

Maybe not the same problem you're having, but the first thought that comes to my mind.

In addition to Snowpine's comment, does the Ubuntu login page offer a virtual keyboard if you want to use one? If so, try using this to enter your password.

Hello, snowpine and hydruga!

First of all, I would like to thank you very much for your support. Actually, the proposed suggestions did not work, but I found the solution in these two sites:

https://www.edivaldobrito.com.br/com...-login-ubuntu/
https://opensourceinside.blogspot.co...t-session.html

The problem was a fail to start a session.

Thank you for your help!

Felipe

Hi Felipe. I'm glad you resolved the issue (well done on finding that info)! Many thanks for both letting us know and also providing links to the solution.
