Solution for the gmail log in problem in ubuntu

After installing Ubuntu 10.1 I had problem in accessing gmail and facebook log in firefox. I was using proxy server.
solution I made in proxy setting, where after setting manual proxy configuration- giving http proxy server and port, i have clicked on APPLY SYSTEM_WIDE.... it solved my problem, now I can access all sites.

I have been searching for this solution for nearly 1 month, after getting this, thought to share with all, hope some one will be benefited.
