I have an Ubuntu 18.04 installation that lately has gone a little haywire.
The system boots up seemingly fine, and X just never starts. (That is, all the startup text goes flying by, finishing with all of the daemon processes with the green [ OK ]s next to them, and then nothing else happens.)
/var/log/Xorg.0.log isn't much help either, as nothing new is getting written to it after restarting.
Hi:
Not sure if your nvidia card uses the 304 driver or not but......
I found out the other day that the Nvidia 304 driver isn't supported in Ubuntu 18.04.
The cut off was 16.04:-
The only thing I can think of that you can try is run:
/var/log/Xorg.0.log isn't much help either, as nothing new is getting written to it after restarting.
Nothing new means nothing for us. You need to look for EE in that file, or post it. But if it was not written at all you need to check /var/log for any related messages, and/or you need to start X from command line and check that console.
But hopefully blacklisting will solve this issue.
