Using Red Hat ES 4's VNC server at home, and trying to connect to it from work using RealVNC's client.
What port do I need to open in the firewall sitting in front of the Red Hat machine to allow VNC access to it?
I can see with a netstat -an that the Red Hat machine is listening on ports 5801 and 5901. I understand that 5901 would be the port to connect to for the :1 vnc session on the linux machine. Even so, the RealVNC client fails to connect.
Any help will be much appreciated. I've googled the issue, but with little success on a definitive answer.
do you use a router to manage your internet connections?
If yes, you'll have to create a virtual server there so
the router knows which computer to forward the connections
on port xxxx to
Outbound VNC connections had been disabled on the firewall at work for some reason. Allowed outbound connections to port 5901 and all is fine.
For the record: I can actually connect with server:5901:1 and server:1 - both work but I haven't tried it for, for example, server:5901:2 to connect to another vnc session.
