up2date "rollback" method?

Hello all

My situation:
I have quite a few RH ES4 and AS3 systems that are in need of up2date patching. For the moment, this does not include the kernel. Initially, I was planning to run "up2date -u". Since these are "live" systems, having a myriad of applications and uses, I would like the ability to, if a problem is reported after the patching, be able to withdraw/rollback the patch and restore the system to a before-patching status.

I noticed in the man page for up2date that there is a "no longer functional" option for --roll-back and --undo, that look like they at one time could have done what I'm looking for.

So, is there a method I can employ to achieve sorta the same thing now?

If you launch 'up2date --configure' you can check a box to save data for rollback but 'man up2date' says that all the tools are obsolete and non functional. You could back out using rpm.

yeah, I was surprised to see that the rollback options were discontinued, with nothing available to replace the functionality. I'll keep digging, and thanks for the reply.
