Unhappy sound on rh8 (you've guessed it ac'97!)


Hi there

i have a problem with sound on my via 8332 chipset

alsa on red hat dosnt work so can anyone help

I doubt that that statement and I believe it to be incorrect. Methinks you may not be able to install the kernel needed, maybe?

this is what i get when i install the driver


[root@localhost alsa-driver-0.9.6]# ./configure --with-cards=via82xx --with-sequencer=yes;make;make install

checking for cc... no
checking for cl... no
configure: error: no acceptable cc found in $PATH
make all-deps

make[1]: Nothing to be done for `all-deps'.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver-0.9.6'

Please, run the configure script as first...

rm -f /snd*.o /persist.o /isapnp.o
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver-0.9.6/support'
Makefile:9: ../Makefile.conf: No such file or directory
Makefile:27: /Rules.make: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `/Rules.make'. Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver-0.9.6/support'
make: *** [install-modules] Error 1

You will need to install a compiler such as gcc. There should be an rpm on one of the install cds try installing that then redo ./configure
