Screensaver lock requirement

Within RHEL 6, I have a requirement that the screensaver be started with a screen lock after 5 minutes for all accounts.

Anyone know to set this up? I'd even be happy if i found seperate settings for KDE and Knome.

I know you can set screensaver preferences using gnome-screensaver-preferences window for GNOME. I am not sure about KDE though.

For gnome you can use the gconftool

gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory --type int --set /apps/gnome-screensaver/idle_delay 15

Thanks Maximus.

Do you know if this includes requiring the password of the account to unlock the screen?

And, this works regardless of KED or Gnome?

Corrado,

Yes, that command will lock the screen and will require a password (assuming the system has a password set). No, it only works for gnome. I’m not sure what the command would be to set it for KDE but if you right click on the desktop > Configure Desktop > Screen Saver, you can pick a screen saver and configure lock out times.
