rh8 iptables update problem

I get a 'Failed dependencies" error when updating iptables on my rh8 box. Says 'stat is needed'. Yet when I query rpm for whatprovides I get 'no package provides stat'.

What to do?

rpm 4.1
kernel 2.4.20-20.8 i686
iptables-1.2.8-8.80.2

Thanks!
Jeph
