Result of replacing x from * in /etc/shadow


Hello Theam,
This is Vijay Bhomraj Thanvi,I have just joine the LQ and very happy to introduce myself to you.

Ok I have one question which is asked by our lecturer last night and we have to find out the same.

So my question is:
What happen if I replaced X from * in /etc/shadow?

Wheter the user account will be Locked or
user can loging without password or
user cnanot login to the system or
user can't loging till * replaced to x.

Plz provide me the needfull and correct anwer.

Hope i'll get full satisfaction.

I would think it would lock the account. You should be able test it by creating a user, replacing it, and then trying to login as that user.
