RedHat Linux 9.0 vs. RedHat Desktop

I need to develop some applications with strict timing requirement. Can anybody tell me whether I should choose RedHat Linux 9.0 or RedHat Desktop? Is Redhat Linux 9.0 still free of charge? P.S.: can both of them be upgraded to Linux Kernel 2.6 with the kernel preemption functionality? Thanks a lot!

RH9 was never free, is now obsolete (not supported or available for sale), and can be upgraded to the Linux 2.6 kernel - but not from RH supplied updates.

The RHEL products (which includes RH Desktop) use a RH version of the 2.4 kernel with lots of 2.6 stuff backported.

I think there is a rule against posting the same query in multiple forums.
