RE: Redhat 9, yum update and nvidia problem

Hi all, well I used yum yesterday for the first time, it upgraded my base kernel for me to to linux-2.4.20-31.9, and stupidly i just did #yum -update so it installed so it installed the XFREE Mesa libraries, which i read have problems with nvidia drivers. Anyway I booted into the new kernel, and X wouldnt start, I ran the x config program, then made the changes I needed to the XG86Config file, ie: "nv" to "nvidia" and enabled "twinview" rebooted and still no joy, I remember reading on a post yesterday to do

rm -f /usr/X11R6/lib/tls/libGL*

or

rpm -e --nodeps XFree86-Mesa-libGL

I tried both of those and rebooted, just wondering id anyone knows what I have done wrong, now the nvidia module wony load, I tried reinstalling the drivers with no luck.

This is part of the nvidia installer log file:

ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.o'. This is most likely
because the kernel module was built using the wrong kernel source files.
Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for your
kernel; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the
'kernel-source' rpm installed. If you know the correct kernel source
files are installed, you may specify the kernel source path with the
'--kernel-source-path' commandline option.
-> Kernel module load error: Kernel requires old insmod, but couldn't run
/usr/local/sbin/insmod.old: No such file or directory
ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file
'/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions
on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux
driver download page at www.nvidia.com.

Thanks again
