Useful point - it is not actually clear from the original post if the system files were extracted from the ISO and burned to the disk, or the iso was burned, or if the disk was created from the ISO.

... and so on, which lends to the idea that filename.iso was dragged to nero, and the burn button clicked. AFAIK: nero is set to create disks from the image when a .iso, .raw, .bin etc extension is used. Of course, this may have changed.

Ahhh... you chose the distro becouse you've used it before. f8 is definitely an improvement.
When you install, use custom partitioning and create a home partition (as well as boot and root)- this allows you to use clean installs without losing your data. The default scheme uses LVM, which will probably confuse you since you are not up to date.
