php rpm with mysql source


I have installed apache and php using rpms and every thing is working fine. I have installed mysql using source (tar.gz). Here goes my problem: i am unable to access mysql database from php scripts.

Have you set up a user and are you logging in correctly before trying to access the DB from the script?

Dude why don't you save yourself some trouble and get XAMPP

You will be up in 5 minutes after you download it.

where did your rpms come from--are they red hat rpms? depending on who did the build, you may need additional rpms to connect to mysql. for red hat in particular, you would need php-mysql.

beyond that, can you connect to mysql using the mysql client (command line) to verify that it is running and is not a php/script problem?
