mysql connections

hi i am using redhat 9. its my webserver, where jsp runs on tomcat and i use mysql database, i often see that even though if nobody uses the server in the network the mysql threads are over 30 and the opens are over 20000, my users use mysqlcc to modify and create records, what might be the problem.

If you use database connection pooling in tomcat, there will always be some connections to the database as they are kept in the pool. 30 seems a little too much though. You may want to check the tomcat settings for minimum and maximum numbers of open connections and set it to something lower if appropriate.
