mouse dead after kernel rebuild on RH9

I rebuilt the kernel that came with RH9 after doing some changes with "make menuconfig". All I changed was that I eliminated PCMCIA support (I need to install external pcmcia-cs drivers). Everything went well but after booting on the new kernel both my mouse and my touchpad are dead. Any ideas??

What kind of mouse is it - PS/2 or USB? If USB, are the correct USB modules loaded if they were not built into the kernel, and are the correct touchpad modules loaded such as the synaptics driver?
