Question lost MOUSE after kernel rebuild

Hi,

I am using RH7.3 with kernel 2.4.18-3 on my dell inspiron 8600. But it have problem in recognize my ethernet card Broadcom440x. After googling around different linux board, I think I need update my kernel. But after kernel rebuild (2.4.26), First : it can not find my mouse ( which is connected through a USB port). why? what possibly wrong? I follow the howto step by step very carefully.

Second, because it can not recognize the mouse, it only boot into text mode.

third, it still can not connect to ethernet.

Please help.

Thank you very much.

Did you load the host driver (most likely uhci-hcd) and hid module for your USB controller? The most common way to access mice is using the hid driver (and the mouse device as /dev/input/mice or /dev/mouse).

You're not telling us what you have done or any error messages. Did you build the driver as a module, and if so - what happens when you try to load it (using modprobe)?

how to load the USB driver

Hakan,

Thanks for the reply.
During "make xconfig" process, I enabled all the USB and HID related option. Would you please tell me how (and where)to load the USB driver or set the HID driver?

Thanks.

-Eric
