I have a Red Hat Enterprise Linux v.4 system. When I try to telnet from another system (Windows) as an ordinary user, it allows the connection. I am logged into the remote system. However, it gives me the following error:
"Cannot resolve network address for kdc in required realm while getting initial credentials".
I have checked my /etc/resolv.conf file to make sure I am pointing to the right name server. I have also tried using the IP address directly rather than the fully qualified domain name. It gives me the same error.
Originally posted by spooon Wow, people still use telnet to login remotely? That is so insecure and stuff. I thought everyone switched to SSH many, many years ago.
Ah, I resisted those same comments, especially since he seems to be the client in this transaction. But your points are good. SSHv2 with public keys with strong passphrases, particularly.
Yes, the telnet being used is /usr/kerberos/bin/telnet. As for the other posts, I am perfectly aware that ssh is more secure. For some reason, people still want to use telnet and I am investigating one such issue and ran out of ideas.
Thanks for your responses. I look forward to more inputs.
