download resource from terminal

hi , all .

my system is redhat 9.

I am a Chinese . i am located in university network and i am behind gateways or firewalls that porbid our visiting to outboard site directly, so we must visit outboard site through a http proxy or a sock proxy in browser .

recently , i want to install gnome 2.8 release distribution through an open source software named garnome . this software will directly download source package from some outboard site such as http://ftp.gnome.org/ and so on in terminal command line . i have set a http-typed proxy in gnome-network-preference , but it can't work .

i wonder how to solve this problem .

thanks in advance .

Howzit

I hope i understood your quetion correctly but there are two ways in doing this.

You can use a console browser called links which will come with your distro.

The other is a command called wget u can use if u know the addr/link to the product u want

Buy the way I am currently in Beijing and it is wonderfull

Good luck

ciao
