Data pickup from scsi dat in red hat 5(64bit)

I have connected the SCSI tape drive with tape in a computer, operating system is red hat 5. This SCSI drive was detected as nst0 .These tapes have three files on them

1) The tape header
2) The .bck file
3) The trailer file

I need .bck file. To skip the header file on the tape I have given the following Linux command

Mt –f /dev/nst0 fsf

Now I am positioned at the .BCK file. Then I have given

DD if=/dev/nst0 bs=8192 of=/mnt/u1ws1p.bck

But I found that in MNT the size of the .bck file was kb range something like 231kb.
I think that was header file .The data file must be in MB range.

My requirement is to copy the .bck file to the hard disk using Linux. This .bck file is the image of the operating system OpenVMS 7.1.1H1 and application PMS 2.2 .and the volume of the tape is 4GB.

Ok, are you running RH5 or RHEL5(Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5). RH5 is pre 2000 and is going to be pretty tough to deal with. The Best advice for RHEL5 is to use the required subscription you paid for and ask RH.
